Total excision and V-Y plasty technique in the anal area condyloma acuminatum

Abstract: Condyloma acuminatum is located in the perianal region, anal canal, vagina and the perineum. It is caused by human papillomavirus types 6 and 11. A 18 year-old man was admitted to the clinic because of a perianal mass. On examination of the patient's perianal area and inside the anal canal, a mass was found, which was nearly 8 × 8 cm in size. We could not obtain any information about venereal transmission. The mass was totally excised and the defect was reconstructed with a bilateral V-Y advancement flap. This… Show more

“…In the literature, several methods have been described to cover the skin defect, including mesh-skin grafting [5,6], S-plasty [7], myocutaneous flap [8] or other forms of reconstruction. There are few references to V-Y flap reconstruction, except for one case published by Demirel et al [9] and our previous publication of six cases [10]. Both publications report small numbers with a short follow-up, making it difficult to draw any definitive conclusion on the validity of the procedure at the moment.…”

“…The bilateral local V-Y advancement fasciocutaneous flap is a useful flap for closure of skin defects in the perianal area [19] , being quick and easy to design and raise [20] , with a low degree of complexity and morbidity. The former is important because the literature reveals that most cases of perianal BCCs present in elderly patients, thus low morbidity interventions should be preferred.…”

“…The treatment that has shown the lowest recurrence rates is surgery. However, when used for giant condyloma it requires extensive resection leaving a large perianal defect that may require reconstruction [4][5][6][7].…”
