“…Neonates with increased total ACEs score had lower gestational age and birth weight. This is the rst study to our knowledge assessing ACEs of the neonate, but these ndings do align with existing literature on maternal ACEs which show increased total maternal ACEs associated with preterm birth and decreased birth weight (10,20). Studies have hypothesized that toxic maternal stress affects the fetus in utero resulting in adverse birth outcomes (12,20).…”

“…FGFR2 associated with obesity and weight at birth ( Haworth et al, 2014 ; Tian et al, 2018 ; Carboni et al, 2020 ) and with adult obesity ( Wu et al, 2014 ); DUSP22 related to diabetes and obesity ( Rizzo et al, 2020 ), and ZFP57 related to nutrition/neonatal diabetes ( Boonen et al, 2013 ). In consonance, the neglectful condition has been associated with having a preterm birth ( Sulaiman et al, 2021 ) with lower birth weight ( Strathearn et al, 2001 ) and with developing obesity over the life course ( Danese and Tan, 2014 ; Strathearn et al, 2020 ). ZFP57 ( Chen et al, 2019 ), FGFR2 ( Xi et al, 2014 ), and WNK4 ( Fackler et al, 2011 ), have been related to breast cancer, and WNK4 also with hypertension ( Mu et al, 2011 ; Ching et al, 2021 ) associated with suffering coronary heart disease ( Deschênes et al, 2021 ), conditions that are common among the long-term consequences of the abuse and neglect ( Strathearn et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been linked to multiple adult adverse health outcomes of psychological 75 and somatic 8,115 nature, including changes in peripartal mood and anxiety, 14,23,104,109 and preterm delivery. 14,104,109 A relationship of ACEs with chronic pain, 27,33 such as chronic widespread pain, 52 various functional somatic pain syndromes, 1,22 different forms of back pain, 22,56,59,61,63,64,69,81,96,98,107,111,125 and chronic pelvic pain, 46,57,58,83,87 is well established. Adverse childhood experiences encompass several types of experiences, of which maltreatment (ie, abuse and neglect) is particularly relevant for pain.…”
