Objective: To investigate the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of children with cryptorchidism complicated by testicular torsion. Methods: The clinical data of 6 children with cryptorchidism complicated by testicular torsion admitted to our hospital from December 2000 to December 2016 were analyzed retrospectively. Results: All 6 children were diagnosed with cryptorchidism by surgery, their age was from 12 days up to 11 years, and the average time between onset of symptoms and diagnosis was 20.5 h. Torsion testis was located in the groin area and the rate of left to right was about 2:1. Twist was 600° on average. All children were admitted because of the inconsolable cry, abdominal pain, and the swelling of the groin. Three patients underwent orchidectomy, while the other 3 patients underwent detorsion and cryptorchidopexy. Color Doppler ultrasound examination showed normal testes at 6 months after operation. Only 1 case was diagnosed with cryptorchidism after birth. Conclusions: Cryptorchidism is an emergency in pediatric urology and often leads to a low testicular salvage rate, especially in infants, due to lack of knowledge, delayed diagnosis, and late treatment. Neonatal genital examination is important for the early diagnosis and management of cryptorchidism.

Elle semble aussi être associée à un risque important de torsion. Cette entité est très peu abordée dans la littérature. Nous rapportons tous les cas de torsion sur testicule cryptorchide observés à notre service dans le but de mieux caractériser cette pathologie et de réduire ainsi le taux d'orchidectomies. AbstractPurpose: Cryptorchidism is a rather frequent pathology in urology. It is associated with a high risk of infertility and degeneration. It also seems to be associated with a high risk of torsion. This entity is poorly studied in the literature. We studied the cases of torsion on cryptorchid testicles hospitalized at our service, to better characterize this pathology and reduce the rate of orchidectomy. Methods: We underwent a retrospective study of all the cases of torsion on a cryptorchid testicle hospitalized in our service of urology between 1999 and 2007. Results: The age of patients was between 7 months and 39 years. Torsion touched the right testicle in 53% of the cases. Patients experienced a brutal pain of the inguinal area with an under cutaneous mass inflammatory and a painful and empty homolateral scrotum. In 60% of the cases, the diagnosis was late and an orchidectomy was carried out. In the other cases, a lowering of the testicle was done with the controlateral orchidopexy. Conclusion: Even though torsions on a cryptorchid testicle are rare, we should not ignore them. The early diagnosis will make it possible to save and lower the testicle, and track a possible degeneration.

Abdominal pain and vomiting are common presenting symptoms in young children, and there are a myriad of differential diagnoses ranging from benign to life‐threatening. We present the case of a 20‐month‐old boy who came to the emergency department with abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting. Initially, he was thought to have intussusception with a necrotic lead point based on clinical signs, laboratory findings, and ultrasonography, but was taken to the operating room after air enema failed to demonstrate an intussusceptum. He was ultimately diagnosed with torsion of an undescended testicle. Few cases of torsion of the undescended testes are reported in literature.
