Topology optimization for a station class surge arrester model

Abstract: High‐voltage stress can cause partial discharges, which in turn result in deterioration of high‐voltage equipment, and hence, in increased maintenance costs. To this end, corona rings are used as means to capacitive field‐grading. In this work, topology optimization is employed for designing alternative layouts for capacitive field‐grading in a station class surge arrester. The objective of the formulated optimization problem is to homogenize the electric field strength along the axis of symmetry of the consid… Show more

“…The second major topic treats general methodological advances in numerical methods 5,6 . The third major topic is the application of modeling to the study, design, and optimization of a wide range of technological devices, spanning low‐ to high‐frequency electromagnetic regimes: from magnetostatics 7,8 to electro‐ 9,10 and magneto‐quasistatics, 11,12 to full‐wave 13,14 . This underlines the spirit of the conference, which encompasses both theory and practical applications.…”
