Topological Space of the Knee Tensegrity System

Abstract: Estimating the knee axis is crucial to both correctly aligning components in knee arthroplasty and assessing the joint kinematics. From the point of view of perceptual psychology, it is especially interesting that one can use the part-whole relationship at the knee joint as the basic theory. We characterize the concept of a "knee axis" and further the concept of "surrounding." It is now generally recognized that the whole-part relationship, and the relationships of the parts to each other play a fundamental ro… Show more

“…Otherwise, we can postulate that when the KIA and GRF are completely covariant when they always go together, they constitute a single "stimulus." If the knee tensegrity system [7] is capable of extracting invariants from a changing haptic stimulus, there is no reason why it should not extract invariants that seem to us highly complex. Therefore, the reaction torque caused by the foot-ground at the knee will be taken on partially by muscles surrounding the joint.…”

“…The IAK is defined by a linear combination of the two movements, S and T [5]. Then IAK must be that movement picked up among the many candidate movements on the cylindroids which are specially positioned to ground reaction force (GRP) [7]. Hence the ratio of the amplitudes about S and T is determined (Figure 1), which manifests that facts that the sensitivity of the knee joint to its orientation to both S and T of crucial importance for the elaboration of locomotion.…”

“…The tensegrity's structure is characterized by the contact normal elements $'4 and $'5, while all the other elements are, continuous tension elements, showing specific configuration having torqueless connections (Figure 1) [33]. There are no moments at the joints because the knee tensegrity structures are entirely in involution [34,35] and, therefore, there are no bending moments in these structures, just tension and compression, and omnidirectional load distributors.…”
