Topographic approach for analysis of palm crease variants.

Abstract: Summary. As the variability and possible clinical significance of palm crease abnormalities receive greater attention, an accurate and objective method for evaluating the palm crease variants is required. A new method is described employing a topographic approach. A network of co-ordinates drawn on the palm prints enables an accurate and reproducible description to be made of unlimited numbers ofvariants ofpalm crease configurations. This method makes possible quantitative studies rather than merely qualitativ… Show more

“…While the previous method only used X and Y coordinates to calculate the T-DoT of palm creases (Dar & Schmidt, 1976), the new method uses those not only to calculate the T-DoT, but also to reveal the frequent starting and termination points of palm creases (Fig. 7).…”

“…6 SC are also useful for diagnosing intrauterine toxin exposure, 3,17 fetal alcoholic syndrome, mental retardation, neoplasia, and other diseases. 14,19 A unilateral SC was also reported in the case of chromosome 9 mutation causing nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome and Robinow syndrome. It is also sometimes found on the hand of the affected side of patients with Poland syndrome and craniosynostosis.…”
