Tool ceramics based on Al2O3–ZrO2–TiCN composite

Abstract: 621.762 Oxide composite Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 (Y 2 O 3 ) powders containing 50 and 70 vol.% Al 2 O 3 , are deposited from salt solutions. The surface area of the deposited powders exceeds 75 m 2 /g. It is established that the α-Al 2 O 3 and t-ZrO 2 (Y 2 O 3 ) matrix has an effect on stepwise crystallization of α-Al 2 O 3 and the powder production history on the sinterability of oxide composites. Ceramics based on Al 2 O 3 -ZrO 2 (Y 2 O 3 ) composite powder containing 20 vol.% titanium carbonitride are hot pressed to… Show more

“…unit cell is occupied by C or N atoms. Titanium nitride (TiN), exhibits excellent properties such as chemical stability, thermal stability, resistance to oxidation, high fracture toughness and high hardness (18)(19)(20)(21). For the TiN phase, thermal conductivity (29.31 W/(m•K)) and Young modulus (466 GPa) are similar to that determined for TiC, whereas the thermal expansion coefficient is slightly higher at 9.4 × 10 −6 K −1 .…”

“…The ZrO 2 whisker reinforced Ti(C,N) based cermets with addition of Co and WC were recently analysed [17]. Zirconia-alumina matrix composite reinforced with Ti(C,N) and Ni, Ti, Mo added as binders were sintered by microwave, repetitious-hot-pressing, and HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) and tested [6,8,[17][18][19][20]. Spark plasma sintering was used with good results for alumina ceramics and for Ti(C,N)-based cermets with the addition of a metal binder phase [21,22].…”
