Tonglian Decoction (通莲汤) arrests the cell cycle in S-phase by targeting the nuclear factor-kappa B signal pathway in esophageal carcinoma Eca109 cells

Abstract: TLD inhibited Eca109 cell proliferation by arresting cells in S phase. The possible mechanism might be related to inhibiting the NF-κB transduction cascade. The combination of the herbs found in the three separate formulae, H, Q and Z, work synergistically in TLD to produce the inhibitory effects of TLD treatment on Eca109 proliferation.

“…To explore the mechanisms underlying the antiproliferative activity of HMF in NCI-H1975 cells, we then detected the cell cycle distribution. Like the cell cycle arrest effect of some TCM [ 20 22 ], HMF could induce S phase cell cycle arrest. Sub-G0/G1 cells are the hallmark of apoptosis, and the flow cytometry results also confirmed the apoptosis inducing effect of HMF.…”

“…[17][18][19][20][21] In this article, we review the application status and mechanistic research of TCM and discuss its shortcomings and prospects in the context of integrated medicine, precision medicine, and evidencebased medicine. [22][23][24][25][26] Ancient Classical Formulas for the Treatment of EC Although EC itself was not described in ancient China, TCM was applied to improve clinical symptoms such as dysphagia. 27,28 Meanwhile, ancient Chinese herbal formulas gradually developed from single herbs to multiple drugs (formulas).…”

“…Based on the formula and TCM pharmacology theory, MTD was invented by our research team and patented in China [ 12 ]. A series of basic experiments and clinical trials were conducted showing that MTD inhibited Eca109 cell proliferation and downregulated the NF- κ B signaling pathway [ 13 ]. The present study explored the anticancer effects of MTD on the invasion and metastasis of Eca109 cells in the hypoxic microenvironment, aiming to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the effects of MTD on EMT mediated by HIF-1 α -Snail axis.…”
