Tobacco Mosaic Virus as a Carrier for Small Molecules. II. Cooperative affinity labeling of membrane vesicles with a TMV angiotensin conjugate. Preliminary communication

Abstract: 1241Summary A (3-mercapto-1-succiny1)-TMV c-maleimidohexanoyl-[ 1 -asparaghe, 5-valineIangiotensin I1 conjugate was prepared and used for cooperative affinity labeling of bovine adrenal cortex cell membrane vesicles containing angiotensin-binding sites. The labeling was demonstrated by electron microscopy and by CsCl and sucrose density gradient centrifugation. Preliminary evidence for specific binding and for the postulated cooperative affinity interaction is produced. The idea of cooperative affinity labeling… Show more

“…The latter reaction allowed the separation of TMV-S-hormone/vesicle aggregates from unreacted virus particles and vesicles by density gradient centrifugation (Ref. 3). All of the observations suggested an especially strong, specific association between THy-S-hormone and receptors on the plasma membrane.…”
