“…19 Studies of Ferran et al and Shetty et al similarly had union in all cases. 17,23 However many studies had non unions-Bostman et al (6.82%, 3 cases), 15 Thyagarajan et al (5.88%, 1 case), 22 Canadian Orthopedic Trauma Society (3.23%, 2 cases), 11 Shen et al (3%, 7 cases), 19 Woltz et al (2.7%, 3 cases), 20 Serrano et al (2.23%, 3 cases) 18 and meta analysis by Nourian et al (2%, 27 studies, 1104 patients). 21 Delayed union was seen in studies of Thyagarajan et al (2 cases, 11.76%) 22 and Bostman et al (3 cases, 6.82%).…”

“…Some fractures, such as clavicle shaft fractures [40,41], rib fractures [17], scapular fractures [42,43], and fibular shaft fractures, can be treated without operation due to the high success rate of the conservative treatment. In these cases, the reduction in discomfort with a good pain control strategy becomes the main goal of patient care during fracture healing.…”

“…All 9 studies provided data on nonunion. In the study by Shetty et al, [15] nonunion did not occur in both groups, and therefore this study was not merged. Figure 4 showed the results of meta-analysis.…”

“…Instead of radiographic malunion, malunion refers to symptomatic malunion, which means union of the fracture in a shortened, angulated, or displaced position combined with weakness, pain, and other sequelae. Six studies [15,22,3134] reported symptomatic malunion, 3 of which [22,32,34] only recorded the number of patients whose symptoms were serious enough to require corrective osteotomy. In the study by Virtanen et al, [33] 2 patients had a symptomatic malunion and both of them refused surgery because they just experienced mild disability.…”
