To Evaluate Usefulness of Stop-Bang Questionnaire in Predicting Difficult Bag Mask Ventilation and Difficult Intubation in Adult Patients for Elective Surgery: Important Guide for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Patients

Abstract

Introduction: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a condition with repetitive interruptions to breathing due to obstruction of the airway in sleep. We evaluated STOP-BANG score outcome. Aim and Objective: To evaluate the usefulness of stop-bang questionnaire in predicting difficult bag mask ventilation and difficult intubation (DIT) with comparison. Materials and Methods: A prospective, simple randomized, comparative study was on 100 patients. Results: O group had male preponderance, higher American Society of Anesthesiologists grades along with comorbidities, higher mallampati grades, lower sternomental distance and thyromental distance, and higher neck circumference. Mean time in study group was 31.7 s and in control group was 18.68 s. Conclusion: We conclude that patients with STOP-BANG score ≥3 are at higher risk of unanticipated difficult mask ventilation and DIT in undiagnosed cases of OSA.
