Tissue Tracking Allows Rapid and Accurate Visual Evaluation of Left Ventricular Function

Abstract: Systolic mitral annular displacement determined by tissue tracking correlates closely with mitral annular displacement determined by M-mode and with left ventricular ejection fraction. Thus, tissue tracking allows rapid semiquantitative evaluation of global left ventricular function by assessment of systolic mitral annular displacement.

“…Nevertheless it is reported that similar results with colored Doppler could be obtained (1). With the measurement of tissue displacement, in other words tissue tracking imaging, the visual and quantitative amount of tissue motion can be interpreted in millimeters-centimeters in a relatively easier way (33)(34)(35)(36). As strain and strain rate imaging are not affected by impulsion-traction and translation, they may provide better differentiation of mechanical delay (37,38).…”

“…[13] published an analysis of several dozens of patients in whom mitral annulus displacement was measured in three apical views -a total of 6 tissue velocity measurements using TDI with respective measurements using M-mode -in relation to LVEF measurements using the Simpson method (2 apical projections). The authors showed a significant correlation of the measurements obtained using a tissue Doppler and M-mode techniques with LVEF values [13].…”

“…TTI is not noise-sensitive, and has sufficient reproducibility and accuracy, with good spatial and temporal resolution and low inter-and intraobserver variabilities. 9,10 In the present study, we could evaluate ventricular dyssynchrony using TDI and TTI, as well as the relationships between CRBBB and ventricular dyssynchrony and LV cardiac function. Our results were almost identical to those obtained from a study using an electro-anatomical mapping system.…”
