Tissue spray ionization mass spectrometry for rapid recognition of human lung squamous cell carcinoma

Abstract: Tissue spray ionization mass spectrometry (TSI-MS) directly on small tissue samples has been shown to provide highly specific molecular information. In this study, we apply this method to the analysis of 38 pairs of human lung squamous cell carcinoma tissue (cancer) and adjacent normal lung tissue (normal). The main components of pulmonary surfactants, dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC, m/z 757.47), phosphatidylcholine (POPC, m/z 782.52), oleoyl phosphatidylcholine (DOPC, m/z 808.49), and arachidonic acid … Show more

“…In human tissues, a consistent observation of elevated phospholipids has been observed in cancer compared with normal tissues. This includes breast tumors and invasive ductal carcinomas compared with carcinoma in situ, gastric cancers, renal cell carcinomas, human lung squamous cell carcinoma, and colorectal carcinoma . The most frequent observation is of increased PtdCho in tumors, but increases in PtdEtn, PtdIns, and PA have also been observed .…”

“…To create a high electric field, the sharp tip is needed which could be either natural or cut in a leaf or other part of the plant. Tissues from animal and human also have been used for direct chemical analysis [43][44][45][46].…”
