Tissue expression, association analysis between three novel SNPs of the RXRα gene and growth traits in Chinese indigenous cattle

Abstract: Retinoid X receptor (RXR)  is a member of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily that mediates the biological effects on several hormones, vitamins, and regulates lipid, glucose and energy metabolism. In this study, the tissue expression profiles of the bovine RXR gene and association analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with growth traits were carried out in 413 Chinese native cattle. The expression profile was analysed in ten Jiaxian cattle tissues by real-time PCR, and the results showed t… Show more

“…Figure 1 shows that the HSD17B8 was mainly expressed in the salpinx, liver, and kidney. This result was similar to those observed in humans and mice [1,11]. HSD17B8 expression in reproductive tissues plays a key role in maintaining sex steroid levels [2], which is important in controlling animal growth, reproduction, and lipid metabolism [12], and it can further affect meat quality.…”

“…The duck RXRA gene is located on chromosome 18 between 6.20 and 6.34 Mb [37]. The RXRA gene of cattle is located in 105.98-106.01 Mb of chromosome 1, and its QTLs are related to growth performance and meat quality [23]. The RXRA gene of pigs is located at 288.83-288.86 Mb on chromosome 1, and its QTLs are correlated with abdominal fat, back fat, body weight, daily gain, and meat quality [38][39][40].…”

“…Population genetic indices, such as heterozygosity (H e ), homozygosity (H o ), effective allele numbers (N e ) and polymorphism information content (PIC) were calculated according to Nei's methods (Nei and Roychoudhury, 1974;Ma et al, 2013). The formulas were as follows:…”
