BACKGROUND: The purpose of this case report is to describe 2 cases where individualized pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) was used to care for 2 individuals with general pelvic pain. CASE PRESENTATION: Two male patients with pelvic pain and urinary dysfunction were referred to PFPT. Assessment of breathing pattern, the pelvic floor, and the pelvic girdle were performed. Goals were set with a therapist to address their chief complaints and reduce pelvic pain through use of muscle energy techniques, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and behavioral modifications. FOLLOW-UP: Both patients improved after only 4 physical therapy treatment sessions and reported clinically significant improvements in National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index scores. DISCUSSION: The successful and rapid resolution of symptoms in these cases demonstrates the potential benefits of PFPT, patient compliance, and timely referrals to PFPT to expedite outcomes.
