Timed arrays of spiral antennas for circularly polarised UWB scanned patterns with low side lobes

Abstract: This research presents a novel design of a timed antenna array of two-arm log spiral antennas. The design consists in optimising the non-uniform antenna positions in order to obtain a scanned energy pattern with low side lobes in time domain. It is utilised the well-known sequential quadratic programming for the optimisation. The nonuniform array is compared with conventional geometries, such as square array and concentric ring array. The resulted timed antenna array is also analysed in frequency domain after … Show more

“…In [3], the equivalent TMSLA, which obtained by the PSO, is used to realise the same performance in a TMLA. In [8], a novel design of a non‐uniform TMA was proposed to obtain a scanned energy pattern with low side lobes in a time domain. In [16], a more efficient algorithm is proposed and used to optimise a TMSLA.…”

“…In [11], an adaptive particle swarm optimization method is used to adjust the excitation phase and thus suppress the first SLL of large phased arrays to minimum possible level. In [28], the location of the circularly polarized antenna element is optimized in the array based on the sequential quadratic programming and low SLL is obtained for each scanning energy pattern.…”

“…Besides, in recent works, novel timed arrays of linear polarised Vivaldi antennas have been proposed [27]. Novel techniques for circularly polarised UWB-scanned patterns were explored with low sidelobes in [28]. Unlike [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25][26], the present study can create beams at more than two different desired directions.…”
