Time-varying multiplex network: Intralayer and interlayer synchronization

Abstract: A large class of engineered and natural systems, ranging from transportation networks to neuronal networks, are best represented by multiplex network architectures, namely a network composed of two or more different layers where the mutual interaction in each layer may differ from other layers. Here we consider a multiplex network where the intralayer coupling interactions are switched stochastically with a characteristic frequency. We explore the intralayer and interlayer synchronization of such a time-varyin… Show more

“…In the last decade, this Nowak–May model has been extended under several conditions to maximize cooperation [ 32 ]. In this context, the introduction of multilayer networks [ 33 , 34 , 35 , 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ] opened up a new direction to explore [ 40 ], which helps to understand how information available in one network layer affects the behavior of the other network layer [ 41 ]. Multilayer network already captures the spotlight to evaluate the impact of network of networks on the evolution of cooperation [ 42 , 43 , 44 ].…”

“…Recently, the study of synchronization has been extended to multilayer networks. For instance, the influences of the wiring probability and coupling strength on synchronization patterns were discussed in a blinking multilayer neural network [18]; the mechanisms of two burst synchronization transition were clarified in a multilayer Hindmarsh-Rose (HR) neural network [19]; the inter-layer and intra-layer synchronization were studied in a time-varying multilayer network [20], [21].…”

“…A complete study of multi‐layer systems requires a broad multidisciplinary knowledge in various scientific and engineering disciplines. From the scientific aspect, we refer to the works of Menichetti et al and Rakshit et al on the analysis of multi‐layer systems' behavior. From the engineering aspect, we point out the cyber‐physical systems and distributed control strategies, which have emerged in response to the advances in embedded computation, sensing, and wireless communication technologies (see the works of Cruz et al and Chen et al).…”
