Time‐varying frequency model for electric arc furnaces

Abstract: Accurate modelling of the Electric arc furnace (EAF) is necessary to study its impact on the power systems. Here, a new model for the EAF is presented in which both non-linearity and time-varying characteristics are taken into account. The model consists of seven parallel current sources which represent the fundamental and harmonic currents. Magnitude and phase of the fundamental harmonic and magnitude of the second to seventh harmonics are considered as time-varying which are updated every 0.01 s. To do so, t… Show more

“…In [28], a technique for simulating the AC system's dynamic voltage-current properties is suggested which is based on the discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and ANN. In [29], the fundamental and harmonic currents are represented by seven parallel current sources. The phase and magnitude of the current sources are all considered to be updated every 10 ms. A technique that estimates power system harmonics and inter harmonics of the EAF has been proposed in [30], based on spectral model optimization.…”

“…In frequency‐domain models, EAF quantities such as voltage and current are represented by some harmonic sources. In [22], a model for the EAF is presented which includes seven parallel current sources that stand for the fundamental and harmonic currents. The magnitude and phase of the fundamental frequency and harmonics are changing every half cycle.…”

“…This topic is still valid and new directions are constantly being set in the modeling of electric arc furnaces [9,10]. The accurate modeling of the electric arc furnace is necessary to study its impact on power systems [11][12][13][14][15]. It is necessary to know the energy consumed within the individual steps of the arc furnace operation [16,17].…”
