“…Third, obtaining utilities requires stated preference-based assessment methods, or valuation tasks [9], i.e. standard gamble [10], time trade-off [11] or discrete choice experiments [12; 13]. These tasks typically pose implicit or explicit trade-offs between dimensions of HRQOL and survival, which are the empirical basis of the weighting of HRQOL dimensions in the utility index.…”

“…In addition to the choice sets, participants were asked questions related to their (i) socio-demographic characteristics, (ii) use of primary healthcare services and medicines, (iii) health status (including generic health-related QoL assessed using the EQ-5D-3L), 40 (iv) treatment burden (consumers and carers only), using an instrument developed by Tran and M A N U S C R I P T A C C E P T E D 42 a completed sample of 600 has a margin of error of 4%. 43 There is no consensus on appropriate sample sizes for DCE tasks to give precise estimates, and sample sizes are based on rules of thumb.…”

“…23,24 Advances in technology means that it is now also possible to carry out TTO studies using face-to-face CAPI, and this mode was used to derive EQ-5D population value sets for Australia 29 and Denmark. 30 Health-state preferences have also been elicited using DCE in a face-to-face setting, 21 and the feasibility of carrying out both TTO and DCE TTO in an online setting has been investigated.…”
