Abstract: In contrast to significant declines in deaths due to lung cancer and cardiac disease in Westernised countries, the mortality due to ‘chronic obstructive pulmonary disease’ (COPD) has minimally changed in recent decades while ‘the incidence of bronchiectasis’ is on the rise.
