Abstract: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in preterm infants. Early recognition and treatment of NEC are critical to improving outcomes. Enteric nervous system (ENS) immaturity has been proposed as a key factor in NEC pathophysiology.
