Time Simulation of Water Shipping for a Ship Advancing in Large Longitudinal Waves

Abstract: The technique of time-domain numerical simulation for the occurrence of water shipping on board in head waves is presented. The nonlinear effects of the large-amplitude motion are treated. These nonlinear factors include the effect of large wave amplitude, large ship motion, the change of hull configuration below the free surface and the nonlinear resultant wave. Therefore, the variation of the potentials and the hydrodynamic coefficients for a ship at each time step must be carefully treated. While handling t… Show more

“…Research performed on fixed structures, for example [2,6,9,11,19,30,50,54,55], has been valuable in understanding important physical phenomena related to the patterns, elevations, and kinematics of such events. However, green water behavior can be different if the structures are moving, such as when they are floating freely (e.g., free heave-pitch oscillation [56]), when they are moored (e.g., [1,21,22,57]), or when they move with forward speed (e.g., [58][59][60][61][62][63][64]).…”

“…Ship section theory and improved methods [3][4][5][6][7] provide an effective way for numerical simulation of the ship motion under various wave conditions, on the basis of which, the multiple degrees of freedom of ship motion can be calculated under the influence of waves.…”
