Time-of-flight profile of multiply-charged ion currents produced by a pulse laser

Abstract: The ion emission from a Cu-plasma produced by a 308 nm excimer laser is analysed by time-of-flight spectroscopy and by deconvolution of measured ion currents. The ion current signals recorded by an ion collector outside the critical zone, where the charge-states of ions of the expanding plasma are frozen, have been deconvoluted by the use of the Kelly and Dreyfus equation. The meaningful recovered currents recorded for Cu + and Cu 2+ ions have been compared with the current signals reconstructed from the ion e… Show more

“…The constants presented in Table III It is also possible to reconstruct the charge yield at any particular distance (d) along the flight tube, for d >>L CR , using analytically determined equations [65][66][67] which takes the form Q∝d -2 . These relations can be used to compensate for dilution and expansion of the plume.…”

“…Recently published papers [10,13,18] demonstrated successful fitting of measured TOF spectra of multiply charged ions by a function derived from Kelly and Dreyfus model [9] based on the effect of Knudsen-layer formation. This Kelly and Dreyfus model predicts the density of ions with the charge state q in the form…”

“…This Kelly and Dreyfus function can be used for deconvolution of TOF spectra recorded with an ion collector for determination of basic parameters of single ion charge state streams emitted by a laser-produced plasma [18]. The goal of our contribution is a deconvolution of carbon TOF spectra recorded with an ion collector.…”
