Time-Domain NMR in Characterization of Liquid Fuels: A Mini-Review

Abstract: Low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) is a highly promising method for characterizing the different physical parameters and chemical structures of liquid fuels. In particular, there have been a variety of essential applications by means of time-domain NMR (TD-NMR). These applications can be developed for the characterization of petroleum fuels and biofuels, reaction monitoring, or process and quality control of liquid fuels. However, only a few applications have demonstrated the use of TD-NMR via on-li… Show more

“…To this end, time-domain proton NMR spectroscopy can detect minute alterations in the degree of freedom of oil-associated proton nuclei in the bagasse residues after various pretreatment procedures. Changes can be observed in the NMR intensity and the magnitude of relaxation time distribution (Robinson and Cistola, 2014;Nikolskaya and Hiltunen, 2020;. The T1 relaxation/ intensity curves also provide information on the decomposition of lipids in the pretreated bagasse residue upon pretreatment.…”

“…6,7 NMR is also being more and more oen employed in different branches of industry; for example, for product quality control in the food industry, the petrochemical eld, pharmacy and many other elds. [8][9][10][11] Aer mentioning the countless applications and advantages of NMR, one also has to mention the severe limitations of MR based methods. Precisely, MR suffers from inherently low sensitivity, which results from low nuclear spin polarization.…”

“…Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology is prevalently utilized in the petroleum sector, notably for discerning rock pore structures and fluid flow characteristics [31][32][33]. Low-field NMR laboratory core analysis experiments yield richer and more precise data about rock structures [34,35]. This study employs NMR experiments to explore the flow characteristics of nano-elastic microspheres in heterogeneous low-permeability reservoirs.…”
