Tilted BaHfO3nanorod artificial pinning centres in REBCO films on inclined substrate deposited-MgO coated conductor templates

Abstract: We grow BaHfO 3 (BHO) nanorods in REBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−x (REBCO, RE: Gd or Y) thin films on metal tapes coated with the inclined substrate deposited (ISD)-MgO template by both electron beam physical vapour deposition and pulsed laser deposition. In both cases the nanorods are inclined by an angle of 21°-29°with respect to the sample surface normal as a consequence of the tilted growth of the REBCO film resulting from the ISD-MgO layer. We present angular critical current density (J c ) anisotropy as well as fieldan… Show more

“…The distribution is not symmetric with respect to the x-axis which is parallel to the tape surface. This is a consequence of the c-axis tilt of the superconductor layer due to the inclined substrate deposition process applied by Theva [9]. Due to the different opposite current directions in the two stacks, the magnetic field strength is high between the two stacks and decreases very fast outside the stack assembly, resulting in low stray fields outside the cryostat.…”

“…40 Additionally, the tilting angle can be tuned by the PLD growth parameters. 41 Smaller tilt angle indicates slower growth rate, further indicating increased stability of in-plane growth and suppression of outof-plane growth, 42 also reducing the shadowing effect.…”

“…There are two types of superconducting current limiters: saturated iron core current limiter and resistive current limiter. As the second-generation HTS tapes enter the commercialization stage, more and more enterprises can mass-produce the second-generation HTS tapes [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]. Compared with the first-generation tapes, 70% of which were made from silver, the second-generation tapes have higher structural strength, greater room-temperature resistance, and higher quench recovery speed, which has attracted research interest to be applied for resistive current limiters [14].…”
