Tilt Aberration Compensation Using Interference Patterns in Digital Holography

Abstract: We present a numerical procedure that compensates for tilt phase aberration in in-line digital holography by computing the period of interference patterns in the reconstructed phase image. This method enables the reconstruction of correct and accurate phase information, even if strong tilt aberrations exist. Example applications of tilt aberration compensation are shown for a tilted plate, a micro-lens array, and a thin film transistor. This method is convenient because it uses only one hologram and no hardwar… Show more

“…The new hologram I H ' only includes original image information and a reference wave's conjugate after frequency filtering, and it multiplies by a digital reference wave that is the same as a physical reference wave to eliminate the tilt phase error. The method has been widely applied [5,23,56,57].…”

“…They did not provide the solution to obtain the correct spectrum's centering of side band in pre-amplification configuration. In 2009, Cho et al [56] presented a numerical procedure of a tilt phase aberration compensation by interference patterns in in-line configuration. Because the tilt aberration had no effect on the phase of the sample, the parameters of the tilt phase may be extracted from the period of interference patterns in the reconstructed image.…”

“…Adjusting the propagation direction of the different color reconstructing wave fields -let us call it tilt compensation [29] -the color images of the reconstructed object can be realigned. Measuring the relative shift of the reconstructions of two different holograms, we can define the inclination angle of the reconstructing beam that can compensate it perfectly.…”
