Tight focusing properties and focal field tailoring of cylindrical vector beams generated from a linearly polarized coherent beam array

Abstract: We investigate the focusing properties of cylindrical vector beams (CVBs) generated from the combination of an array of beams, each with sub-apertures and controllable polarization. The analytical expression of the tight focusing field of the combined CVBs has been derived based on the Richard-Wolf vector diffraction integral. To obtain a desired focal spot size which includes efficient sidelobe suppression, the required parameters, such as the exit sub-aperture, numerical aperture and truncation parameter, ha… Show more

“…Here, we should also note that the elements of OPA had the same polarization direction. As an important dimension of the beam, the polarization direction of the elements could be modulated for generating more complex optical fields as well, such as forming a radially polarized OPA or an azimuthally polarized OPA for emitting the vector vortex beams [65,66] . Related research is being carried out.…”

“…[1,2] Because of this special characteristic, the focusing properties of vortex beams have been extensively studied. [3][4][5] The power-exponent-phase vortex (PEPV) beam is a new kind of vortex beam that is characterized by a power-exponent-phase exp[i2lπ(ϕ/2π) n ]. It was proposed by Zhao et al for the first time [6] and the evolutions of the intensity distribution of such a beam in free space and a focusing system were investigated in detail.…”
