In the industrial environment, individual enterprises survive by obtaining specific resources. Niche theory uses adaptations of the organizational niche and the environment to explain the survival opportunities of generalist and specialist organizations. However, it does not explain in depth the key to the sustainable development of many enterprises with poor conditions, which have productive social relationships and can obtain the resources that are needed for sustainable development from these relationships. In this study, 106 valid questionnaires were obtained through e-mail. Taiwanese firms investing in China were taken as the enterprise groups, and SPSS statistical software was used to test the empirical relationships among niche characteristics, network relationships, and enterprise performance. The research draws the following conclusions. (1) When the external environment changes unfavorably, the financial performance of firms with a high degree of network embeddedness and large niche width is poorer than that of firms with a low degree of network embeddedness. (2) When the external environment changes unfavorably, the financial performance of firms with a low degree of network centrality and high niche specificity is better than that of firms with a high degree of network centrality. These results can provide suggestions for management theory and practice.

Using the “Computers are social actors” paradigm, this study brings the concept of power to human–computer interactions in tourism. Building on theories of social power and deliberate practice, the authors examine psychological effects of expert power of online travel review platforms (influencer) and its interaction effects with the power of users (influenced). Two expert platform attributes are conceptualized: specialization and experience. A significant interaction effect was identified between platform specialization, platform experience, and user power on perceived information-task fit using a 2 × 2 × 2 between-subjects experiment. When users are powerful, specialization affected perceived information-task fit for low-experience platforms; no significant effect was evident for high experience platforms. When users are powerless, specialization did not affect perceived information-task fit, regardless of experience condition. Perceived information-task fit mediated the effect of specialization on intention to use. The findings contribute to power discourses by exploring the workings of expert power.

This study explores whether a new venture invested by a venture capital (VC) firm which is a new entrant to the new venture's industry will achieve a better or worse growth performance. Using the data of 18910 investment deals in China from 2010 to 2018, we find that the industry dissimilarity between a new venture in which a VC firm will invest and the VC firm's portfolio can help the new venture achieve a better growth performance. Such a positive effect would be stronger when the VC firm has more successful experience, when the financing stage of the deal is later, or when the investment environment of the industry is hotter.
