Progestogens administered to pregnant mice during the initial period of differentiation of the mammary gland rudiment produced various morphological changes in the mammary rudiments of both male and female foetuses.Norethisterone (17\g=a\-ethynyl-\g=D\4-oestrene-17\g=b\-ol-3-one) caused virilization of the rudiments in female foetuses. Medroxyprogesterone acetate (6\g=a\-methyl-\g=D\4-pregnene-17\g=a\-ol-3,20-dione-17\g=a\-acetate)produced virilization of the rudiments in female and feminization in male foetuses. Gestonorone caproate (19-nor-\g=D\4-pregnene-17\g=a\-ol-3,20-dione-17\g=a\-caproate) and allyloestrenol (17\g=a\-allyl-\g=D\4-oestren-17\g=b\-ol) tended to cause feminization of some of the mammary rudiments.
