Ti3C2Tx MXene: A New Promising 2D Material for Optoelectronics

Hariprasad Vadakke Neelamana,
Sreelakshmi Madhavanunni Rekha,
Sarpangala Venkataprasad Bhat

Abstract: MXenes are the new members in the family of two-dimensional (2D) layered materials composed of transitional metal carbides, nitrides, or carbonitrides. Among all other MXenes, Ti3C2T x MXene is the most studied one due to the exceptional properties that make it suitable for various applications, including optoelectronics. Ti3C2T x MXene can be fabricated and processed in a variety of scalable and cost-effective ways. MXenes are solution-processable materials that can be deposited by spin, spray, or dip coati… Show more

“…Like BP, MXenes are also vulnerable to oxidation. 175 Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), MX 2 , where M = transition metals (Mo, W, etc. ) and X = chalcogens (S, Se, Te), have also shown promising results in optoelectronics due to their strong light absorption properties.…”

“…Among Mxenes, Ti 3 C 2 T x was the first compound reported in 2011, [142] followed by approximately 30 new compositions with the general formula M n+1 X n T x , where M signifies an early transition metal (Ti, Zr, Hf, V, Sc, Y, V, Nb, Ta, or Mo, etc . ), X depicts C and/or N, and T x denotes functional groups (−OH, −F, −O, and −Cl) terminating the M surface [144] . Certain forms of Ti 3 C 2 T x , especially when functionalized with specific groups, may exhibit semiconducting behavior, rendering them potentially useful for photocatalysis [145–149] .…”

[144] Certain forms of Ti 3 C 2 T x , especially when functionalized with specific groups, may exhibit semiconducting behavior, rendering them potentially useful for photocatalysis. [145][146][147][148][149] However, the general lack of active sites limits the photocatalytic performance of Ti 3 C 2 T x -based composites.…”
