Ti NMR Study of the Nearly Ferromagnetic System TiBe2

Abstract: NMR data on TiBe 2 have been taken from 1.3 to 270 K in magnetic fields up to 60 kG. The linear dependence of the Knight shift and the NMR linewidth with x = M/H show that the increase of x versus applied field at low temperatures is due to a homogeneous property of the electron gas. The ^-electron contribution to the spin-lattice relaxation rate is found to scale linearly with \T in a wide temperature range spanning the spin-fluctuation temperature.PACS numbers: 76.60. “…Interestingly, the observation of same power law in 1/T₁T and C p (T)/T is not unusual as these type of features also observed in a few systems [10,30,31,55].We rule out the possibility of Griffith phase in YFe 2 Al 10 , because of the absence of significant atomic disorder [44]. T is strong enough to dampen the fluctuations and diminishing the spin entropy towards a FL phase in YFe 2 Al 10 [56][57][58]. The H-dependence of the SLR rate at 2 K follows a dynamic scaling 1/T₁(H)=1/T₁(0)[1+(µ B H/k B T)²] ξ , ξ=0.74 (see Fig.…”

“…Though I have been working on various topics in the 1980's, including spin glasses and insulating glasses, I kept a strong interest in the correlated electron physics which I touched for the first time in these studies on Kondo effect. I did then some work on nearly ferromagnetic metals [44] and on the insulator to metal transition in phosphorus -doped silicon [45], where correlation effects were found more important than expected. During that period, most of the remarks on the scientific context which I have depicted above remained valid.…”

“…55 K can be enhanced substantially, even in simple metals, by electronic correlations. 1,29,56 For 8 Li in Pt, though K is T dependent, the enhancement is relatively modest (K ≈ 2S) at room temperature increasing to ≈ 5S at low temperatures. Stronger correlations in the form of spin fluctuations may be invoked to explain the T -dependent susceptibility of exchange enhanced paramagnetic metals such as Pt and Pd.…”
