THz Gas Sensing Using Terahertz Time-Domain Spectroscopy with Ceramic Architecture

Abstract: Ceramic architectures based on chemical vapor deposition (CVD) are used to create unique crystal structures, morphologies, and properties. This study proposed room-temperature THz gas sensing using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) with ceramic architectures. We synthesized ceramic films on porous glass. Zinc oxide films were created using atmospheric CVD and amorphous carbon nitride films using the dissociative excitation reaction of BrCN with metastable Ar atoms. The transmission method was used i… Show more

“…THz-FDS has proven to be a reliable methodological approach with high resolution in gas detection and quantitative evaluation of VOCs in multicomponent mixtures, which is useful for human breath analysis and environmental/occupational monitoring [41]. Recently, some new systems have also been developed, such as THz-TDS with ceramic architecture, which are used to create unique crystal structures, morphologies and properties [150]. This system allows the selective detection of gas in a mixture of VOCs at ppm concentrations by controlling the architecture of porous glass coated with ceramic films on which the VOC is adsorbed.…”

“…In recent years, terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has been explored for chemical pesticide detection and analysis [4,5] , in addition to its other applications in medical imaging and detection of biomolecules and toxic gases [6][7][8] . While the sensitivity of THz-TDS can be increased by using metamaterial sensors that enhance the pesticide's chemical fingerprint [9][10][11] , they are expensive to fabricate.…”
