Thymosins beta 8 and beta 9: two new peptides isolated from calf thymus homologous to thymosin beta 4.

Abstract: Two new peptides, designated thymosin 1P8 and thymosin (L, respectively, have been isolated and their amino acid sequences established. Thymosin (38, isolated from calf thymus fraction 5, has a mass of 4518 daltons and contains 39 amino acid residues, ofwhich 31 are identical to the corresponding amino acid residues in thymosin 4 isolated from the same source. The NH2

“…Besides TB4, a second peptide, 'I&9, was found associated with 1184 in bovine tissue and has ca. 75% sequence homology [5,6]. Other species, such as man and rat, contain T@lO instead of Tj?9 [7].…”

“…The peptide from rat liver, which appeared to contain a small amount ofimpurity, was cleaved with cyanogen bromide, and the fragments corresponding to residues 1-6 and 7-43 were separated by HPLC. The amino acid compositions of these cyanogen bromide peptides were as predicted from the reported sequence ofthymosin (4 (1,7). The identity of the peptide from rat brain was confirmed by the isolation of tryptic peptides corresponding to residues 1-14, 15 Table 2.…”
