“…In addition, the staining can be negative if sustentacular cells are not present in a limited cell block such as in case 1. Recent studies demonstrate that GATA‐3, Pax 8, and tyrosine hydroxylase may be useful to distinguish these two entities . In one study, paragangliomas were immunoreactive to GATA‐3 in 55% of the cases from any anatomic site, compared to carcinoid tumors which were nonreactive in all cases .…”

In one study, paragangliomas were immunoreactive to GATA‐3 in 55% of the cases from any anatomic site, compared to carcinoid tumors which were nonreactive in all cases . Several other studies demonstrated that Pax‐8 had a sensitivity of up to 88% and specificity of 74% for primary NET of pancreatic origin .…”

“…The higher incidence of TTF-1 positivity in 91% of high-grade NEC cases was noted when using the SPT24 clone, as compared with the 64% of cases detected using the 8G7G3/1 clone [21]. After the comparative immunohistochemical study, Weissferdt et al showed the TTF-1 positivity of 8-17%, and 76% in low and intermediate grade TNECs and PNECs, respectively, using the 8G7G3/ 1 clone of TTF-1 antibody [5,22]. However, TTF-1 expression in our cases showed positivity of 95% for PNECs and 59.1% for TNECs.…”

“…Cytokeratin and PAX8 are positive in neuroendocrine tumors while cytokeratin expression is variable in paraganglioma . Vimentin and GATA‐3 are positive in paraganglioma and negative in neuroendocrine tumors . Tyrosine hydroxylase is immunoreactive for paraganglioma .…”

“…12 Vimentin and GATA-3 are positive in paraganglioma and negative in neuroendocrine tumors. 9,18,19 Tyrosine hydroxylase is immunoreactive for paraganglioma. 19 Staining patterns in our cases were consistent with published reports on the staining profiles of paragangliomas.…”
