Throughput reliability analysis of cloud-radio access networks

Abstract: This paper develops a stochastic geometry-based analytical approach for calculating the throughput reliability of a cloudradio access network (C-RAN) comprising randomly distributed remote radio heads (RRHs) and randomly located users. A tunable distance-based RRH transmit power control mechanism along with cooperative joint transmissions by the RRHs is employed to achieve power savings and high throughput reliability. The analytical result for the throughput reliability serves as input to analysis of per user… Show more

“…Coordinated multipoint (CoMP) was introduced in Long Term Evolution (LTE) Rel-11, where the goal was to improve the quality of service (QoS) experienced by cell edge user equipments (UEs). Since LTE focused on increasing the data rates and/or spectral efficiency of the network, CoMP was also limited to interference mitigation and throughput/capacity improvement [12]- [22]. However, the expansion of industry verticals and use cases promised by 5G has signaled renewed interest in CoMP.…”

“…As observed in [22], most works on user centric-clustering have used numerical simulations, e.g., [33] which considered zero-forcing beamformers in the uplink, and [34] and [35] which considered a number of precoding strategies for the downlink. In [30], [36], and [37], the downlink of user-centric BS co-operation systems are considered analytically. Reference [38] considered uplink and downlink transmissions with single antenna BSs, and 2 cooperating BSs detecting signals from a given mobile.…”
