Throughput Propagation in Constraint-Based Design Space Exploration for Mixed-Criticality Systems

Abstract: When designing complex mixed-critical systems on multiprocessor platforms, a huge number of design alternatives has to be evaluated. Therefore, there is a need for tools which systematically find and analyze the ample alternatives and identify solutions that satisfy the design constraints. The recently proposed design space exploration (DSE) tool DeSyDe uses constraint programming (CP) to find implementations with performance guarantees for multiple applications with potentially mixed-critical design constrain… Show more

“…The iteration periods (5) of the application graphs, i.e. inverse of their throughput, results from decisions for all CP variables that create the MSAG that was introduced in Section II-C. Its value is determined by a specialized throughput propagator [8] that performs maximum cycle ratio analysis [9] on the MSAG. The utilization of all processors is given by system utilization (6).…”

“…It is based on the CONTREX UML/MARTE modeling methodology [6] and considers safety constraints into the different design activities, integrating external tool like Multicube Explorer [7] for the DSE step. Finally, DeSyDe [8] provides a DSE tool for bare-metal applications, finding implementations for a set of tasks on a shared multi-processor platform starting from synchronous dataflow graphs (SDFGs), introducing MC requirement at scheduling level.…”

“…Table I shows the parameters setting. Considering AC, the maximum number of instances for each BB is 2, the maximum number of instances of BB considered into the DSE is equal to the number of processes (8) and BBs are supposed to communicate by means of a shared bus. The Reference use case is shown in Fig.…”

“…DeSyDe is a modular tool which uses constraint programming to find designs that are compatible with design constraints. DeSyDe supports applications that belong to two different domains: (i) streaming applications modeled as synchronous dataflow graphs [24], [25]; (ii) feedback control applications modeled as periodic tasks [26].…”
