Throughput, energy efficiency and interference characterisation of 802.11ac

Abstract: This paper is the first of its kind in presenting a detailed characterisation of IEEE 802.11ac using real experiments. 802.11ac is the latest Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) standard that is rapidly being adapted because of its potential to deliver very high throughput. The throughput increase in 802.11ac can be attributed to three factors—larger channel width (80/160 MHz), support for denser modulation (256 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM)) and increased number of spatial streams for Multiple‐input Mu… Show more

“…As in [21,24,26,27,28] in this research we uses files transfer between two smartphone to enable ACL mechanism, while SCO mechanism was enabled by making voice call with smartphone that connected to bluetooth headset as interference source. As in [2] each transmission was tested 10 times to obtain reliable data. The next scenario (Figure 3) is similar to first scenario, but there is data transmission between bluetooth devices in ACL mode that range from sender which is 1 to 5 m with 1 m range interval.…”

“…Based on satellite communications, the impact of this phenomenon is the density wireless network signals is increasing. In addition, along with the development of data traffic on internet trhough wireless link, the popularity of one generation of wireless network technology, which is IEEE 802.11 is increasing [2].…”

“…With the many advantages that wireless networking offers, one main disadvantage is being less secure than wired networks, due to devices in a wireless local area network being connected wirelessly over the air, and with this, wireless networks are also slower as there is no direct connection between devices [1].…”

“…In 2015, Siddiqui et al [9] investigated the parameters that restrict IEEE 802.11ac from achieving the maximum bandwidth beyond 1Gbps. Then Y. Zeng, et al [10] studied the effect of some parameters including distance, power consumption, and interference on 802.11ac throughput in an indoor environment. In 2014, Dianu, et al [11] studied the impact of distance, propagation environments, and Wi-Fi interference on 802.11ac WLANs performance.…”
