Three reflections to improve residentsÓ? education: preparing the future of radiology

Abstract

Despite the dramatic evolution of diagnostic imaging in recent years, the pedagogy in residency programs has not undergone significant changes. This is due, in large part, to the rigidity of the programs and the teaching teams' resistance to change. In this article, we will address three key challenges to initiate change: a) the visibility of the radiologist within the healthcare team and how a competency profile could serve as a guide; b) the curricular structure of the programs and their flexibility to adapt to changes; and c) mentoring as a support strategy for both residents and teachers in specialty programs.
