Three-Pion Interferometry Results from CentralPb+PbCollisions at158AGeV/c

Abstract: Three-particle correlations have been measured for identified pi(-) from central 158A GeV Pb+Pb collisions by the WA98 experiment at CERN. A substantial contribution of the genuine three-body correlation has been found as expected for a mainly chaotic and symmetric source.

“…NA44 reported a result close to unity for Pb-Pb interactions, but a much lower result for S-Pb [8], both with no clear Q 3 dependence. WA98 also reported a result close to unity at Q 3 = 0 for Pb+Pb, and the Q 3 -dependence in their result is similar to what we see in central collisions [9]. Figure 4 shows the calculation of ε for STAR's measurements, and for those from WA98 and NA44.…”

“…Recently, the experimental investigation of the source coherence in the Pb-Pb collisions at √ s N N = 2.76 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was carried out by the ALICE collaboration [14]. A substantial degree of source coherence was measured [14], using a new three-pion interferometry technique with an improvement over the past efforts [15][16][17]. It is of interest to study the reasons of source coherence in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC energy.…”

“…Function r 3 is insensitive to resonance decay [15,[17][18][19]22], and is directly related to the condensation fraction for our space-symmetric EPG sources. Similarly, the normalized fourpion correlation function r 4 (p 1 , p 2 , p 3 , p 4 ) is defined by [23]…”
