Three-Layered Thin Films for Simultaneous Infrared Camouflage and Radiative Cooling

Abstract: With the rapid advancements in aerospace technology and infrared detection technology, there are increasing needs for materials with simultaneous infrared camouflage and radiative cooling capabilities. In this study, a three-layered Ge/Ag/Si thin film structure on a titanium alloy TC4 substrate (a widely used skin material for spacecraft) is designed and optimized to achieve such spectral compatibility by combining the transfer matrix method and the genetic algorithm. The structure exhibits a low average emiss… Show more

“…In Figure 2 , the genetic algorithm is a biomimetic optimization approach that emulates the processes of selection, crossover, and mutation observed in biological genetics. 48 Commencing with a randomly generated initial population, the GA iteratively refines individuals, adapting them to the environment by employing genetic operators. Over the processes of optimization, this iterative process leads the population to evolve, ultimately converging toward an optimal solution within the specified parameter range.…”

“…Among a variety of energy-saving glasses, metal/dielectric multilayer films have been widely discussed in the academic world because of their simple structure, high visible light transmittance and high near-infrared reflectivity. Currently, metal/dielectric multilayer films have important applications in energy-saving glass [3][4][5][6][7][8][9], solar energy utilization [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17], infrared stealth [18][19][20][21][22][23][24], and other fields. The core idea is to optimize the thickness and material of each film layer to achieve regulation of the radiation characteristics of each band.…”
