Three hybrid intelligent models in estimating flyrock distance resulting from blasting

Abstract: Flyrock is an adverse effect produced by blasting in open-pit mines and tunnelling projects. So, it seems that the precise estimation of flyrock is essential in minimizing environmental effects induced by blasting. In this study, an attempt has been made to evaluate/predict flyrock induced by blasting through applying three hybrid intelligent systems, namely imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA)-artificial neural network (ANN), genetic algorithm (GA)-ANN and particle swarm optimization (PSO)-ANN. In fact, IC… Show more

“…The PSO have a lot of advantages including (a) a quick and easy method to solve the problems, (b) PSO is an efficient optimization style to maintain and (c) needing tiny memory to calculate the best position and find the best solution (Chakraborty et al, , Karakuzu et al, ). The position and speed of a particle during the drying process are explained by the follwing algebraic equations (Koopialipoor, Fallah, Armaghani, Azizi, & Mohamad, ): Vnew=w*V+C1r1()PbestX+C2r2()gbestX Xnew=X+Vnew …”

“…ABC algorithm has been used in different engineering problems including well placement optimization of petroleum reservoirs [43], optimization of water discharge in dams [44], data classification [45], and machine scheduling [46]. More description on the ABC algorithm can be found in other references [47][48][49][50]. A typical flowchart of ABC algorithm is shown in Figure 12 6.…”

“…This technique uses the objective function evaluation in all decision variables for processing. Since the GA is a probabilistic method, there is no need for specific data for action guidance [41]. Contractually, individuals within the population are called volunteering solutions who slowly gain their desired solutions over time.…”
