Three genetic–environmental networks for human personality

Abstract: Phylogenetic, developmental, and brain-imaging studies suggest that human personality is the integrated expression of three major systems of learning and memory that regulate (1) associative conditioning, (2) intentionality, and (3) self-awareness. We have uncovered largely disjoint sets of genes regulating these dissociable learning processes in different clusters of people with (1) unregulated temperament profiles (i.e., associatively conditioned habits and emotional reactivity), (2) organized character prof… Show more

“… 66 However, it should be noted that the highly cooperative individuals in our sample who had high neurocognitive functioning had the “organized profile” in which both self-directedness and cooperativeness are high (see table 4 ); such individuals are distinguished by their excellent executive functions and logical reasoning. 67 Bergvall and Hansen 68 previously reported an association of low cooperativeness and low self-directedness with attentional set-shifting. In violent offenders, intellectual ability was also related to low cooperativeness and self-transcendence, but also to harm avoidance, novelty seeking and self-transcendence.…”

“…In order to group patients sharing similar features within the existing heterogeneity, we approached this ambispective study using NMF techniques encoded into the PGMRA system [20]. This system was successfully used to identify complex genotypic-phenotypic architecture of mental disorders and personality traits [40], which has now been customized for cancer phenotypes. In contrast to classical clustering techniques, not all features are included in such associations, but only those that provide a multifaceted description of groups of patients at risk.…”

“…As well we can be sure the Theory of Physics Education will keep up with research on humanities. We already know a lot about the human personality (Cloninger, 2004;Zwir, 2019), ways of thinking (diSessa, 2017), abductive reasoning (Magnani, 2017). Both ways will determine the development in each of the clusters: teaching-learning; digital technology use and the methods of research.…”
