Three‐dimensional volumetric quantification of fat loss following cryolipolysis

Abstract: Background and Objectives Cryolipolysis is a noninvasive and well-tolerated treatment for reduction of localized subcutaneous fat. Although several studies demonstrate the safety and efficacy of this procedure, volumetric fat reduction from this treatment has not been quantified. This prospective study investigated the change in volume of fat after cryolipolysis treatment using three-dimensional (3D) photography. Materials and Methods A prospective study of subjects treated with cryolipolysis on the flank (l… Show more

“…There has been 1 study to date looking at volumetric changes with cryolipolysis. 17 In this study, 1 flank (randomized) was treated so that the partner side could serve as an internal control. The mean volume loss in the treated flank at 2 months after treatment was 56.2 6 25.6 mL versus 16.6 6 17.6 mL in the untreated flank (p < .0001).…”

“…Treatment of one flank leads to the loss of about 40 g of fat over 3 months 10. Thus, treating the abdomen and bilateral flanks will cause about 160 g of fat to be lost during this same time period.…”

“…Only one treatment was usually necessary but diminishing returns with additional treatments were reported 18 and onset took about 8 weeks 11,44 . In addition to the abdomen 10,18,[45][46] , flank 10-11, 18, 44-48 , buttocks 45 and back 10,[45][46] , specific applicators exist for the arms 50 , knees 10,45 and thighs 10,[45][46][49][50][51][52] .…”
