Three-dimensional RODEO breast MR imaging of lesions containing ductal carcinoma in situ.

Abstract: Three-dimensional RODEO MR imaging can be an adjunct to mammography because of its ability to enable better determination of tumor extent and differentiation of pure DCIS from DCIS with an invasive component.

“…Variable enhancement characteristics and also early contrast enhancement in a ductal carcinoma in situ are also known from dynamic MR mammography studies and reported to be related with angiogenesis. 36,37 Some limitations were encountered in our study. Owing to the method of data transfer (see Materials and Methods), a quantitative evaluation of the color hues, encoding for the flow velocities, unfortunately was not available for sensible analysis.…”

“…DWI findings were evaluated in consideration of these three groups. We calculated cut-off ADC values to distinguish malignant and benign lesions from complicated cysts/abscesses (0.6x10 -3 cm 2 /sec) and also malignant (10)(11)(12) . The contrast enhancement dynamics of the lesion reflects the vascularity of the tissue, the vascular permeability, the interstitial pressure changes and the contents of extracellular spaces.…”

“…By the use of MR, lesions can be identified that are not seen mammographically. But the method of MR-guided needle biopsy of the breast is still too complicated for routine use [31][32][33][34][35]. Although there is the possibility of using ultrasound or MR as guidance modalities for minimally invasive biopsy of DCIS, stereotactic mammography seems to be the best means of targeting suspicious microcalcifications within the breast.…”
