Three-dimensional de Sitter horizon thermodynamics

Dionysios Anninos,
Eleanor Harris

Abstract: We explore thermodynamic contributions to the three-dimensional de Sitter horizon originating from metric and Chern-Simons gauge field fluctuations. In Euclidean signature these are computed by the partition function of gravity coupled to matter semi-classically expanded about the round three-sphere saddle. We investigate a corresponding Lorentzian picture -drawing inspiration from the topological entanglement entropy literature -in the form of an edge-mode theory residing at the de Sitter horizon. We extend t… Show more

“…Placing a holographic dual to de Sitter space on the horizon itself has a long precedent [13,38,[54][55][56][57]. 8 There are serious questions about such a construction which we will not address, foremost being the dynamical nature of the horizon and the properties of the theory on the horizon: gravity does not obviously decouple there, so it seems the holographic dual would itself be gravitational, as in [13].…”

“…The one-loop partition functions of free conformal fields on spheres, hyperbolic cylinders, and anti-de Sitter spaces have helped us to understand the horizon entropy of the theories of gravity coupled to matter. This was initiated in [1] and more recent developments can be found [2,3,4,5,6,7]. It is well known that the spheres, hyperbolic cylinders, and anti-de Sitter spaces are related by Weyl transformation.…”
