Three cases of intracystic papillary neoplasm of gallbladder

Abstract: Intracystic papillary neoplasm (ICPN) of gallbladder is a comparatively new concept and is described as pre-malignant lesions in Nakanuma et al. (In: Bosman et al. (eds) WHO Classification of Tumours of the Digestive System, World Health Organization of Tumours, IARC, Lyon, 2010). ICPN with high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia is understood to include intraepithelial carcinoma or noninvasive carcinoma. And lesions with invasive cancer components are classified as ICPN with an associated invasive carcinoma [1].… Show more

“…According to WHO classification, a 3-stage grading system (well, moderately and poorly differentiated) has been proposed for gallbladder carcinomas, which consider the architectural and cytological changes. [13][14][15] It is noted that well-differentiated carcinomas are papillary carcinomas and may be difficult to distinguish from GBPs.…”

“…Some studies have reported on specific imaging findings of ICPN. The typical CT finding is the presence of a > 1-cm enhanced papillary mass in the gallbladder [6]. Additionally, ICPN remarkably exhibits high enhancement from arterial phase to delayed phase.…”

“…ICPN was described in the 2010 WHO classification [ 7 ] to designate the cholecystic counterpart. So far, the clinicopathologic features of ICPNs have been evaluated only in a few studies [ 6 , 8 , 17 ], and many issues especially concerning the tumorigenesis remain uncertain.…”
