Three‐body abrasive wear behavior of short jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites

Abstract: In present investigation, the three-body abrasive wear behavior of short jute fiber reinforced epoxy composites was studied. The effect of various parameters such as fiber loading, sliding velocity, normal load, and abrasive size on the abrasive wear rate of composite has been analyzed. Abrasive wear study has been carried out using a dry sand/rubber wheel abrasion tester. The abrasive wear and friction characteristics of these composites are analyzed successfully using Taguchi orthogonal array and analysis of… Show more

“…The natural fibers such as sisal fiber, jute fiber, and glass fiber are maintained at a constant level on volume percentile in the compositions are noted on the Table . To obtain minimum wear rate, the impact of fiber loading in a composite material is the least factor on overall parameters (applied load, sliding distance, and sliding velocity), and it is influenced by 4.03% only . The addition of nano clay with epoxy resin produces good impact strength .…”

“…To obtain minimum wear rate, the impact of fiber loading in a composite material is the least factor on overall parameters (applied load, sliding distance, and sliding velocity), and it is influenced by 4.03% only. [24] The addition of nano clay with epoxy resin produces good impact strength. [25] The heat compression technique is employed to fabricate the composite specimen on volume fraction basis with the dimension of 250*200*10 mm 3 .…”

“…For dental restorative applications, resin-based composites are well known for their great esthetics, light weight and biocompatibility 1,2) . Alongside the fact that computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique is gaining rapid popularity, indirect restorative materials are welcomed by dentists because it may enable shorter fabrication process and better properties in comparison with those direct restorative procedures and materials [3][4][5] .…”

“…This is attributed to the fact that orientation of fibers in the above direction are in the best position to support the load and effectively resist detachment from the matrix. In continuation to our ongoing efforts to develop a fiber reinforced epoxy composites with improved wear and friction performance [13][14][15][16][17] an effort has been made in the present work to investigate the effect of fiber orientation on wear and frictional characteristics of hybrid composites (glass-carbon and twaron-carbon reinforced epoxy composites) under different conditions of applied load and speed. The effect of high and low temperature hardener system is also briefly investigated.…”
