Three body abrasive wear assessment of novel jute/natural rubber flexible green composite

Abstract: Determining the resistance to abrasion of the flexible cladding for armours and automobile structural components with the aid of lab scale tests has become increasingly important. In the present study, three body wear behaviour of flexible green composites comprising of jute in woven fabric form with interleaved natural rubber sheets bonded through rubberized B stage cured Pre pegs have been studied. Flexible composites are fabricated in three different configurations having different layers of jute and rubber… Show more

“…The natural fibers used in the composite can withstand repeated loading cycles without breaking down, making them ideal for use in products that are subjected to constant wear and tear. 17 Abrasion due to third body occur on PMC components while they are in use which can cause damage to the surface of the composite material. 18 In order to mitigate the effects of three-body abrasion on polymer matrix composites, several measures such as selection of matrix material, use of fillers, surface treatments and design modifications can be adopted.…”

“…33 In such sacrificial structural applications, natural fibres could be a viable alternative to synthetic fibres. [34][35][36][37] Due to its higher thermo-mechanical properties, economy and availability, jute appears the most promising natural fibre among the numerous natural fibres accessible. As a result, jute-reinforced composites can be used in various engineering applications.…”

“…5 Jute has been used by various researchers in the development of composites for different applications such as impact and wears. [6][7][8] Hybrid composites are branched sub-divisions of composites made by combining two different fibers or adding fillers along with a polymer or metal matrix. The former is generally chosen to have a higher strength value than the latter to meet the specific requirements of the chosen application.…”
