Abstract:Thoracic surgery is performed in small animals to address a variety of conditions affecting the heart, lungs, other intrathoracic structures or the thoracic wall itself. Different approaches to the thorax are chosen depending on the procedure performed. This article discusses the general principles of surgical approach to the thorax and the intercostal approach in detail.
