“…The seismic behavior of gypsum partition walls has been assessed since the late 1960s by several experimental studies. One of the first testing programs was developed by John A. Blume and Associates (Freeman 1971, 1974, John A. Blume and Associates 1966, 1968), which established two damage thresholds: (1) “First Noticeable Damage,” which is when there is only damage to the panels; and (2) “Real Damage,” which is when there is damage to the frame. These tests were subsequently used by Kustu et al (1982) to develop fragility functions for Threshold Damage State 1, the story drift at the first sign of damage, and Threshold Damage State 2, the story drift at which significant repair work is required.…”
